Proverbs 5.2b "...and your lips may guard knowledge."
So how do lips guard? With that most powerful ammunition - words. And since the first part of verse 1,2 talk about wisdom, understanding, and discretion...the context mandates educated (by God), understanding, discrete words.
Thus it means to speak up. Christians are notorious for almost saying something. And say what you say in love, with understanding, but with clarity.
The power of words is exaggerated by some, negated by others; and all too often ignored by those who should know better.
How "armed" is your tongue?
The stark warning of verse 23 really jumped out at me today: "He dies for lack of discipline,"
ReplyDeleteWOW - with that in mind, i looked back at verse 1 "be attentive" and verse 7 "do not depart from the words of my mouth."
how important is the discipline of being in the Word of God and the Word of God being in us? absolutely critical!
the snares are so easy if we are not wary, but are avoided by focusing on truth - its goodness ruins our appetite to the honey of sin.
"how can a young man keep his way pure? by guarding it according to your word." psalm 119:9
"more to be desired are they (law, testimony, precepts, commandments, fear and rules of the LORD) than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb." psalm 19:10
